Web hosts give you a pair of alternatives - you can be on a dedicated server or a shared server. In the latter case, it is a web hosting situation in which multiple firms occupy the room available on the server and no single enterprise maintains absolute control over the server's assets. On the other hand, in the former case, a single firm possesses the control all by itself. That is also referred to as being on a "private" server, meaning that it only hosts an individual company.

The business hosting the dedicated server exercises complete control over its operating system (original), its hardware and its information application software. The majority of the time it is used by information centers and businesses which transmit and perform calculations on larger amounts of data.

With the aid of a dedicated server the company using it will be able to make adaptations to it according to its needs. It is helpful in the hosting of data applications, and may alter the operating system or user groups. There are a wide variety of companies offering website hosting.

Basically, whatever the company determines is best suited for its purposes, they can do it. The web hosting company can also provide such things as firewalls, set-up protection, and reliable logins for safety purposes. They also offer increased bandwidth, transfer rates that are better, and improved flexibility coupled with more up to date administrative alternatives.

Alternatively, shared server helps to host many companies at a particular point of time which lead to slower data charges and no genuineness or admission to customization. This web hosting is best suited for small and medium companies but as these companies are looking for faster expansion data is escalating by so many bounds in such companies also.

If you're willing to pay for it, there are a lot of advantages to choosing a dedicated server. A dedicated server provides quality services designed with your needs in mind. Although it isn't always the cheapest option, it is the best choice for your company. Just make sure that you have a skilled expert on staff who has the technological skills to work with dedicated servers.

Web hosting service suppliers provide you with two choices. One is the dedicated server and the other is the shared server. There are various companies which offer website hosting. If you have read any of my other articles you know that I am a look and feel kind of guy. I like neat, easy to use workspaces. As a result of this characteristic of mine, I had a strong urge to rearrange the desktop options on my Sharepoint home page.

It is my personal opinion that having a full, well organized calendar is one of the most vital aspects of quality business. If you know at all times what you are doing, when you are doing it, where you are doing it and whom you are doing it with then you are a step ahead of the majority of the world population. It is for this reason that I wanted to have the team calendar at the top of the home page rather than the bottom, where it is defaulted.

In trying to make this rearrangement, one of my coworkers and I made a very important discovery about using Sharepoint. If you are using Firefox as your web browser then your Sharepoint service will work differently than if you were using Internet Explorer.

What I will do here is go through the step by step process of editing your homepage shortcuts and then explain the differences you will experience when using either of the two browsers.

Step One

You will need to log in to your Sharepoint account with Admin access.

Step 2

Once you are logged into your account click on the "Site Actions" tab located in the top right hand corner of your homepage.

Step 3

Once you have selected this option a drop down menu will appear. The middle of the 3 options will be entitled "Edit Page". You will select that option.

Now this is where it gets tricky. If you are using IE (Internet Explorer) you will be able to simply drag the different options to whatever position you would like it.

For instance, if you would like to move the "Calendar" option to the top of your home page, you very easily place your mouse arrow over the top bar of the "Calendar" box, hold your left click down and then drag the box to the top of the page.

Now, if you are like me and fancy the Firefox browser, then you will need to apply a bit more effort.

You will need to hit the "X" box to close each selection.

Next, you will notice that at the top of the page is a box that says "Add a Web Part".

Select that option. Once you have done this, a pop up window will appear and show each item that you just deleted.

You will want to check the empty box next to each item that you wish to have displayed on your home page.

You will want to do one at a time so as to insure that Sharepoint uploads them in the correct order.

So, there you have it! Now go do it yourself!

In adjusting the look and feel of your site, you will want to start with the "site theme".

What is The Site Theme?

Essentially, the site theme is the color of your site. I chose the color by examining the color of my company logo and determining which Sharepoint site theme would best match.

So how do you do this?

Excellent question! Let me put it in a step by step format.

1. Log in to you SP account. Be sure that your log in has admin rights.
2. Once you have logged into your account, you will want to take your attention to the top right hand corner of your page. You will notice a tab that is titled "Site Actions". Click on that tab.
3. Next, a drop down menu will appear. In that drop down menu there will be 3 options to choose from. Select the last tab, entitled "Site Settings".
4. After you have selected "Site Settings", you will be taken to a page that has a horizontal menu consisting of 4 headings. Direct your attention to the "Look and Feel" heading. Under that heading, there will be 7 options to choose from. The 3rd one from the top will say "site theme". Click it.
5. The following screen will be a box that gives you the name of each Sharepoint site theme. You can see what each individual theme looks like by simply selecting the different names.
6. Once you decide on a theme, go to the bottom right hand corner of your page and select the "Apply" tab.

With millions of new websites created each year, many cheap domain hosting companies have been created to meet the demand. For the webmaster, this is great news. The more companies that compete against each other, the more quality hosting services will arise to meet your needs.

With that said, not all hosting services are created equal. In fact, the advertising departments of some hosting companies purposely conceal the truths. Thus, when you are considering a hosting package, it is important that you understand the industry standard when it comes to the nuts and bolts of your website.

How Many Websites Will Share the Servers?

Most websites - with the exception to the major online players - are hosted on shared servers, especially with cheap domain hosting services. However, you want to ensure that the number of websites on your server will not overload your website. Remember, with shared servers, all of the websites have to share the same resources - meaning that one greedy website can drain your site of bandwidth and disk space.

Where are the Servers Located?

In today's day and age, geographical location may seem redundant. However, it plays a significant role in determining if the hosting company will do your website justice.

If your target audience will be in the United States, then it is important to choose a domain host located in America. This maximizes the speed in which a website loads. Although the connectivity among data centers internationally is improving, you cannot go wrong selecting a cheap domain hosting company that resides within your targeted country.

What Equipment does the Host Use?

Even if you may not understand the technical jargon, evaluating the web hosting company's server equipment is important. Keep in mind that the server hardware plays a large role in the speed of your website, especially if your website's programming involves database interaction with scripted dynamic content. Therefore, the faster the server hardware, the faster your website will be.

The hardware specs change frequently, and therefore, a good way to evaluate the quality of a cheap domain hosting service is to compare its hardware to others.

Does the Host Have Backup Servers?

Some web hosts skimp and cut corners to reduce costs - and backup servers are usually a target for cost-cutting. It is important that the company you use employ backup servers. This ensures that if a server goes down, there is another one to host the websites - and to restore your website with the most recent backup version they have saved in their other databases.

In addition, you may want to enquire how often the cheap domain hosting service makes backups of its servers. Of course, daily backups are the best, but some services only backup once a week. Also, you should make sure that the hosting company saves the backups on another server - or else the failure of one server means your entire website's files may be wiped out.

The competition in the industry has prompted many domain hosts companies to provide quality, reliable, and stable services. Thus, by comparing the technical specifications, you can truly choose a cheap domain hosting company that is a great quality bargain.
